Gaza News: "People are starving, while in Israel supermarkets are full of food," denounces UNRWA, which claims to have 6,000 trucks of aid blocked at the borders

"The inhabitants of Gaza are neither dead nor alive; they are walking corpses," reported Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), relaying the words of a colleague on the ground. "Lift the siege and let humanitarian aid in on a large scale," pleaded Mr. Lazzarini.

- Hamas confirmed, overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, that it had submitted its response to an Israeli proposal for a sixty-day ceasefire in Gaza, as negotiators from both sides hold indirect talks in Qatar with mediators.

"I don't know what else you would call it other than people starving to death en masse, and it's man-made," said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during a press conference in Geneva.

- The Israeli government stated on Wednesday that it was not responsible for the chronic food shortage in the Gaza Strip and accused the Islamist Palestinian movement Hamas of deliberately creating a crisis. Earlier, Paris had affirmed that the "risk of famine" facing the civilian populations of Gaza was a consequence of the blockade imposed by Israel.

- Civil defense in Gaza reported 17 deaths Wednesday in new Israeli bombings in the Palestinian territory, while the Israeli army said it was continuing its operations against Hamas fighters.

- Israeli President Isaac Herzog visited Gaza on Wednesday, for the first time since the start of the war, and affirmed that Israel was acting in accordance with "international law," according to a statement from his office, quoted by Agence France-Presse.
