Humanitarian Flotilla Attacked: Solidarity Targeted, Gaza Isolated

A Besieged Peace Journey

In recent days, the Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla has set sail again in an attempt to break the maritime blockade imposed on Gaza. The ships were carrying food, medicine, and medical supplies. But even before reaching the coast, several boats were surrounded by the Israeli navy: warnings, searches, intimidation, and according to some volunteers, physical violence.

Aboard the ship Madleen were several committed French figures. Among them: Rima Hassan, Franco-Palestinian MEP; Farida Amrani, LFI MP; Mélissa Camara, French MEP; actress Adèle Haenel; as well as activists such as Yacine Haffaf, president of the association Waves of Freedom, and volunteers such as Baptiste André, humanitarian doctor, Pascal Maurieras, activist IT specialist, and journalists Yanis Mhamdi (Blast) and Omar Faiad (Al Jazeera). Their presence highlights the international reach and French roots of this mission.

A Dangerous Repetition

This attack is reminiscent of previous ones: in 2010, the Gaza flotilla and the tragedy of the Mavi Marmara had already left their mark, with a heavy human toll. Fifteen years later, the scenario repeats itself: civilian and humanitarian ships remain systematically targeted by Israeli forces.

By blocking this convoy, Israel prevented the arrival of essential cargo: medicines, surgical equipment, generators, food. For a population trapped in the enclave and already on the brink of famine, each interception represents a silent condemnation.

The Invisible Victims

Beyond the solidarity activists and elected officials on board, it is above all the residents of Gaza who pay the price of this aggression. Hundreds of thousands of civilians directly depend on maritime humanitarian aid to survive. The neutralization of the flotilla means less care, less food, less chance of survival.

Symbolic Scope and Moral Contestation

The attack on a civilian and humanitarian flotilla is a blatant violation of international maritime law. It also sends a political signal: any attempt at direct solidarity with Gaza will be criminalized. However, the diversity of the volunteers on board — MPs, artists, doctors, journalists — proves that international civil society refuses to look away.

Several NGOs are now calling for an independent investigation into the interception, described as a serious violation of humanitarian law.
