Gaza: Death continues to mow down — the truce, a lie

Gaza: Deaths mount despite truce – a new wave of deadly strikes

The past two days have confirmed what Gaza residents have been repeating for weeks: the widely announced ceasefire never ended the killing. Israeli strikes have intensified in the south and center of the enclave, and the human toll is reaching a dramatic level.

An unbearable toll: over 70,000 dead

According to figures reported by Reuters, the total death toll in Gaza has now exceeded 70,000 Palestinians, an unimaginable number that includes victims of recent bombardments and bodies found under collapsed buildings.

In an Al Jazeera live report covering the first 50 days of the ceasefire, it is stated that at least 357 Palestinians have been killed since the truce came into effect. In other words: a "truce" under which, on average, 7 people die every day, often civilians.

Gaza's medical services also reported that in the last 24 hours, a strike on Khan Younis killed five Palestinians, including two children, a piece of information reported by several correspondents in Rafah.

Strikes target civilian areas

The majority of recent bombings have hit densely populated areas: Khan Younis, Rafah, the al-Maghazi camp, and even residential areas near food distribution centers. Witnesses describe scenes of chaos: homes pulverized, families trapped, paramedics unable to reach certain areas due to destroyed roads.

Since early November, several international observers have highlighted that the strikes primarily hit civilians, despite Israeli statements that they are "targeted strikes against armed infrastructure."

A meaningless truce

The reality for Palestinians is simple: the ceasefire exists on paper, but not over their heads. Documented violations, reported by both international journalists and humanitarian organizations on the ground, show that the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.

Hospitals, already overwhelmed, receive seriously injured patients daily. Power outages and lack of fuel make operations impossible. Doctors speak of impossible choices: who to save, who to let go.

Diplomatic impotence

Despite the seriousness of the situation, few concrete international measures have been taken. Several European countries speak of "increased diplomatic pressure," without announcing sanctions. The United States expresses its "concern" but maintains its strategic support for Israel.

For the Palestinian population, this sounds like yet another abandonment.
