"There will never be a Palestinian state": Netanyahu draws a red line, world outraged
An announcement that redefines the war
On September 11, 2025, Benjamin Netanyahu took another step in intransigence. By signing a plan to expand settlements in the West Bank, particularly in Area E1 near Ma'ale Adumim, the Israeli Prime Minister declared: "There will never be a Palestinian state. This place belongs to us." This was reported by Reuters, which noted that this announcement is accompanied by the authorization of thousands of new housing units for Israeli settlers.
For many observers, this declaration confirms the end of the so-called "two-state solution." As The Guardian noted, Netanyahu is now openly pursuing a policy of gradual annexation that blocks any prospect of a sovereign Palestinian state.
Violation of international law
The Israeli colonization of territories occupied since 1967 is widely considered illegal under international law, particularly with regard to the Fourth Geneva Convention. Associated Press recalls that the UN General Assembly adopted the September 12 a resolution called the "New York Declaration," voted by 142 countries, demanding concrete steps towards a Palestinian state. Despite massive support, Israel and the United States opposed the text, confirming their growing isolation on this issue.
The organization Human Rights Watch, quoted by Al Jazeera, speaks of a "red line crossed": not only does colonization prevent any lasting peace, but it also establishes a system of apartheid where the rights of Palestinians are systematically violated.
International reactions: anger, concern, fractures
Diplomatic reactions were not long in coming. According to Reuters, a draft resolution adopted at the Arab-Islamic summit in Doha condemns Netanyahu's statements and colonial expansion, warning that these measures directly threaten normalization processes initiated with certain Arab states.
In Europe, several chancelleries, particularly in Brussels, London, and Paris, have expressed strong disapproval. The Guardian reports that European diplomats are even calling for the suspension of certain cooperation agreements with Israel if the annexation continues.
The UN, for its part, reaffirms that colonization is a violation of international law and warns of the humanitarian consequences: according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, more than 64,000 Palestinians have already been killed since October 7, 2023, a figure that includes thousands of women and children.
What is at stake
This is no longer just a question of borders. It is a question of credibility for the international community. As Mediapart emphasizes in its analysis, if states merely denounce without acting, they are in effect validating a fait accompli policy. The Palestinian future — and beyond, the solidity of international law — hangs in the balance.
